Brand new gloves often feel firm and tight across the knuckles. That is normal: dense padding needs a few sessions to mold to your hand. Here is how to speed it up safely.
1. Start with pad and bag work
Use your new gloves for a few sessions of light bag and pad work before sparring. Moderate, consistent punches soften the padding evenly.
2. Flex the gloves by hand
With the gloves on, open and close your fists for a minute at a time. Off the hand, gently bend the thumb and cuff areas back and forth.
3. Always wear hand wraps
Break in your gloves with the same wraps you will use in training so they shape to your real hand size.
4. What not to do
- Do not soak gloves in water or put them in a dryer.
- Do not hit them with hammers or heavy objects.
- Do not stretch the cuff with tools.
These shortcuts damage the padding and the finish.
How long does it take?
Most gloves feel noticeably softer after 5–10 sessions. Lace-ups adjust faster because the laces let you fine-tune the fit from day one.
