Most Winning glove models come in two closures: traditional laces and hook-and-loop straps (often called Velcro). Both use the same padding, so the choice comes down to how and where you train.
Lace-up boxing gloves
- Best wrist support: laces pull the cuff evenly around the wrist for a locked-in feel.
- Best for: sparring, fight camps and competition.
- Downside: you need a coach or partner to tie and untie them. Many boxers tape over the laces for safety.
Hook-and-loop (Velcro) boxing gloves
- Fast on and off: perfect between rounds, for drinks and phone timers.
- Best for: classes, bag work, pad work and solo sessions.
- Downside: slightly less custom wrist fit than laces.

Our recommendation
If you train alone or mostly hit bags and pads, choose Velcro. If you spar regularly with a coach in the corner, lace-ups give the best feel. Many serious boxers own one of each.
