How Should Boxing Headgear Fit? A Step-by-Step Check

Royal blue and gold boxing headgear

Headgear that slips or blocks your vision can be worse than none at all. Use this guide to find the right size and fit.

Step 1: Measure your head

Wrap a soft tape measure around your head just above the eyebrows and ears. Compare the number to the size guide on the product page.

Step 2: Put it on with the straps loose

Slide the headgear on from front to back so the forehead pad sits just above your eyebrows.

Step 3: Tighten the back, then the chin

Adjust the rear lace or strap first so the headgear sits snugly, then fasten the chin strap. You should be able to fit one finger under the chin strap.

Step 4: Shake test

Shake your head side to side and nod. The headgear should move with your head, not slide over your eyes.

Step 5: Vision check

Look down and to the sides. You should see your partner's gloves and body clearly in your guard position.

Between sizes?

Choose the smaller size if the adjustment range allows it; headgear loosens slightly as the padding molds to you.

Find your size in the Winning headgear collection and pair it with a groin guard for full sparring protection.
